SHAKESPEARE'S SONNETS GET MUSICAL MAKEOVER
The sonnets of British playwright WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE are to be given a musical makeover with a show of rock 'n' roll interpretations. The SHALL I COMPARE THEE TO A SUMMER'S DAY bard's most famous verses will be used to inspire music by cult acts including ANTONY AND THE JOHNSONS, NATALIE MERCHANT and the COCTEAU TWINS. Their interpretations will be performed by an eight-piece chamber orchestra. The Royal Shakespeare Company has commissioned the innovative show, titled NOTHING LIKE THE SUN, which will launch in Shakespeare's birthplace Stratford-upon-Avon next year (FEB07) before touring the UK.
