SECOND DATE CONFIRMED FOR ENNIO MORRICONE BELFAST GIG

Legendary composer Ennio Morricone will perform two shows in Belfast this year after a second date was added to meet huge public demand.

The man behind the unforgettable scores for the likes of The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, Once Upon a Time in America, Days of Heaven, The Untouchables and Cinema Paradiso, had been due to perform a unique concert as part of the Ulster Bank Belfast Festival at Queen's University in the city.

But after the first show sold out within a week, the 79-year-old will also now perform on October 18th.

"It is clear that fans can't get enough of Morricone and we are delighted to have secured a second date," said Graeme Farrow, director of the Ulster Bank Belfast Festival. "To avoid disappointment, fans will need to book early.

"Morricone has an immense following of music lovers across the globe. He is worshipped by names as diverse as Radiohead, Bruce Springsteen, Bono, Goldfrapp, Quincy Jones, Yo Yo Ma, Renee Fleming and Celine Dion."

He added: "As he performs live so rarely, we expect fans to travel from far and wide to see him in action.

"We're proud of the contribution the festival makes to the local economy and we expect that an act of the calibre of Morricone will make Belfast a must visit destination for a lot of people in October this year."

A five-time Bafta winner, Morricone received an honorary Academy award in 2007 for "his magnificent and multifaceted contributions to the art of film music".
