SEAN HUGHES 'TO JOIN CORRIE'
Comedian Sean Hughes is to join the cast of Coronation Street, according to an unconfirmed media report.
The 42-year-old funnyman will play Pat, the "cheeky" new love interest of Streetcars controller Eileen Grimshaw, the Daily Mirror claims.
A Corrie insider told the paper that Hughes, most recently seen in ITV1 drama The Last Detective, "absolutely loved" filming his first scenes in the soap this week.
The unnamed source revealed that Hughes' character will get together with Eileen, played by Sue Cleaver, after meeting her in the Rovers.
But long-suffering single mum Eileen, who has yet to be lucky in love, could be set for further heartbreak as the new man in her life fails to mention that he is married.
According to the insider, Hughes will make his first appearance on Coronation Street next month.
"It's a great coup to have Sean to play the role," the source told the Mirror, adding that the part was both serious and comical.
Hughes, a former captain for the TV music quiz Never Mind The Buzzcocks, is not the first established comedian to be signed up to tread Corrie's cobbles.
Red Dwarf star Craig Charles rekindled his fame after joining the northern soap as cabbie Lloyd Mullaney.
