SCOTT THOMAS KEEPS STAGE THREAT

LATEST: KRISTIN SCOTT THOMAS has kept her threat to ditch Hollywood in favour of the stage after signing up for a part in a London production of ANTON CHEKHOV's THE SEAGULL. THE ENGLISH PATIENT star, 46, recently complained she was tired of losing out on lead roles to younger actresses and hoped the theatre would recognise her talent rather than obsessing over her age. She said, "I would like to do a London theatre show because there is so much more freedom there compared to Hollywood. "Right now, all the big parts go to girls like SCARLETT JOHANSSON and I have to accept that's not for me." The Seagull's artistic director IAN RICKSON says, "Kristin is so right for the part. She is a romantic, intelligent and witty actress and she'll make a great match for Chekhov. To have her on the stage in my first production at the Royal Court is a thrill." Scott Thomas is no stranger to the stage - she appeared in Chekhov's THREE SISTERS in 2003 and last year (05) received rave reviews for her performance in LUIGI PIRANDELLO's AS YOU DESIRE ME.
