SCISSOR SISTERS TO PEN TUNES FOR BROADWAY SHOW

THE SCISSOR SISTERS are planning to pen the songs for a musical version of TALES OF THE CITY.

Frontman JAKE SHEARS and touring band member JOHN GARDEN will write the tunes for the Broadway show, which is expected to hit theatres in 2009, reports the BBC.

The musical, which is being produced by the team behind the hit show AVENUE Q, focuses on the character of Mary Ann Singleton, a prudish young woman from the Midwest who moves to San Francisco and meets an unusual collection of colourful characters while living at 28 Barbary Lane.

It is based upon the novel of the same name by Armistead Maupin.

The stage version is being scripted by Jeff Whitty, who won a Tony award for best book of a musical for Avenue Q in 2004.

Jake and co's announcement follows news that PETE DOHERTY and CARL BARAT may be teaming up to write a stage musical.

The former LIBERTINES bandmates are said to be working on a show about the struggles of an up and coming rock 'n' roll band.
