SAYER GAINS AUSTRALIAN CITIZENSHIP

British pop star LEO SAYER has credited Australia with giving him a new lease of life after gaining citizenship into the country on Monday (26Jan09). The singer topped the charts in the 1970s with hits including the Grammy-winning track You Make Me Feel Like Dancing and When I Need You.
And he has heaped praise on the people of Australia, where he moved in 2005, for their ongoing support of his career.
Speaking at a special ceremony marking the national holiday Australia Day, the star said: "I'm 60 and I feel like a 20-year-old at the moment in my life here, because everyone is so much encouraging me to keep working and everything.
"In the old country, England, it would have been, 'Sorry - you're from the '70s and that's it.'"
