SARANDON OUTS PAL OVER COLLEGE GRADUATION SECRET

SUSAN SARANDON let slip a college secret on late-night TV in America on Monday night (11May09) - she snubbed her graduation day and let a friend take her place.
The actress insisted her parents never knew about the switch - because they couldn't make it to her graduation from the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. - and then she accidentally outed the pal who faked it.
Appearing on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon, Sarandon revealed, "I gave my place to someone who didn't graduate because her family was coming.
"She sat in my place and I think there were so many people, they never figured it out."
The friend, who Sarandon outed as Mary Cunningham, revealed years later she still hadn't told her parents that her graduation day was a fake - and she had someone else's degree.
The actress added, "She couldn't tell them (parents). It would have been so upsetting to them.
"And whoever looks at your degree... unless you're a dentist or something."
Sarandon, then Susan Tomalin, graduated with a BA in drama in 1968.

Wow! This story took me back! I am the person who wore Susan's cap and gown to graduation so as not to disappoint my parents. After suffering through the main ceremony in 100 degree heat, my parents had had their fill of pomp and opted to skip the Arts and Sciences ceremony (Thank God - woulda been busted there.) I borrowed $300 from a friend, took the 3 credits I needed in summer school and graduated in October. I finally told my mother when she was in her 80's and she thought it was a hoot. Thanks for the amusing memory!
