SANZ SCRAPS CONTROVERSIAL VENEZUELA SHOW

Spanish singer ALEJANDRO SANZ has scrapped his St. Valentine's Day concert in Venezuela after discovering he's "unwelcome" in the country. Sanz was originally slated to perform in Caracas in November (07) but that show was scrapped over comments he made against Venezuelan leader Hugo Chavez. The Spaniard has regularly expressed his dislike of the president, and once stated he'd only perform in Venezuela when Chavez's term in office had ended. Sanz reconsidered his stance when fans begged him to perform, but government opposition and financial issues prompted him to scrap the show. He quickly rescheduled, upsetting officials who thought Sanz would give up his plans to perform in Venezuela. A statement from the singer's publicist reads, "The decision was motivated by the constant difficulties and inconveniences caused by various Venezuelan authorities, the most recent of these being that they declared him a persona non grata. "Alejandro Sanz profoundly regrets this situation, and he'd like to take a moment to reiterate the enormous respect and affection he has for the Venezuelan community and his loyal fans."
