SANDRA BULLOCK AND HUSBAND 'UNHURT' AFTER CAR CRASH

Sandra Bullock and her husband Jesse James have escaped unscathed following a head-in collision with a drunk driver.

The Miss Congeniality star and her TV presenter husband were being driven in a private sports utility vehicle in Gloucester, Massachussetts when a Subaru station wagon switched lanes and collided with their front end.

Lucille P Gatchell, the 64-year-old driver of the Subaru, was breathalysed by Gloucester police at the scene and was found to be two and half times over the legal US limit for alcohol consumption when in charge of a vehicle, said local police lieutenant Gerry Cook.

No one was injured in the accident, though Bullock and James were "shaken up, needless to say," Lieutenant Cook told the Boston Herald newspaper.

"But they were fine – he was hugging her," he added. "Jess and Sandra were hugging. They said they were fine, they didn't need medical attention.

"There were quite a few people snapping pictures of them."

Gatchell was held overnight by Gloucester police and will be arraigned on Tuesday on charges of driving under the influence of alcohol and failure to stay in marked lanes.

"It's unfortunate," Cook told the Herald. "But it shows you that no one is immune from drunk drivers, no matter how famous you are."
