SAMBERG FUNDED FILMS WITH MISPLACED MONEY

Funnyman ANDY SAMBERG credits a costly blunder for his acting career - he funded films with thousands of dollars a bank mistakenly placed in his account.
The Saturday Night Live star was a struggling college student at New York University scraping together cash to fund low-budget movies.
But his money woes were briefly laid to rest when he found an extra $5,000 (£3,380) in his account, Samberg recalls in new book Requiem for a Paper Bag.
He writes, “I went to the ATM and saw that I had 5,000 extra dollars in my account... Weeks later, I checked back and the money was still in there. I thought somebody in my family had deposited it as an outlandish (but welcome) gift, but I was dying to know what the hell was going on. I certainly wasn’t going to report anything, though, so I decided to just let it sit for a while.
"I decided to see what would happen if I transferred out the money - maybe I’d get a call from the bank president, or have federal agents knocking at my door. Here’s the thing: Nothing ever happened. Nobody said anything about it."
But the Emmy-winner feels no remorse about spending the misplaced money, because the mistake propelled his film career.
He adds, “One was called Mime Comps, about a talking mime. Had I lied to the bank by saying nothing? All I’d done was keep my mouth shut, like a mime. Would you have done anything different? Who knows where the five grand came from? These are mysteries that will never be solved.”
