RYDER IN TROUBLE AFTER BREACHING U.K. SMOKING LAWS

HAPPY MONDAYS star SHAUN RYDER is to be investigated by English authorities after flouting the country's smoking ban. The singer was performing at an Oxford venue on Friday night (05Oct07) when he lit up a cigarette onstage. Bosses at Oxford City Council confirmed they are investigating the incident after receiving a complaint. A spokesman says, "We will be looking to see if there is any evidence that smoking took place at the Carling Academy. "We will discuss this with the management there and depending on the outcome of these discussions we will consider what action is appropriate in the circumstances."
