RUFUS WAINWRIGHT WRITES OPERA

Singer songwriter RUFUS WAINWRIGHT is working on a dramatic new project - he is writing a full-blown opera.
Wainwright claims the show will fulfil a longheld ambition, and he is busy writing, soon after completing an exhausting tour performing Judy Garland's songbook.
He says, "I've wanted to write an opera since I was about 14 years old. But I couldn't find a story that I could wrap my head around."
The singer reveals inspiration came when he began looking at his singing heroines and himself: "The construct of the diva. from Maria Callas to Norma Desmond and the movie Diva from the 80s. And God darn it, there's a bit of me in that too."
