Former hellraiser JOHN LYDON has begged his rock colleagues to stop glamorising drugs, recalling how they destroyed his SEX PISTOLS bandmate SID VICIOUS in 1979. Lydon - better known as Johnny Rotten - is saddened music stars continue to advocate illegal substances nearly 30 years after Vicious died of an overdose aged just 21. He says, "For him it was a fantastically decadent world that he assumed carried applause with it. And he was horribly rewarded because people would think he was special as he was so off his tree. "But deep down, poor old Sid knew he was not special. Heroin was a symbol of deeper pain for him." He adds, "I despise (drugs). I loathe the idea that there might be some false sense of chemical security. "Heroin eliminates self-hatred, but it also makes you invulnerable to all that is good."
