ROMANIAN FILM WINS BBC WORLD CINEMA AWARD

Romanian film THE DEATH OF MR LAZARESCU won the BBC Four World Cinema Award last night (25JAN06). Director CRISTI PUIU flew in from the Romanian capital Bucharest to be present at London's National Film Theatre, where his movie beat off competition from a short-list of films including PEDRO ALMODOVAR's VOLVER and French/German movie HIDDEN. Puiu said he was "very glad" to receive an accolade "from one of the most famous broadcasters in the world".
