ROLLING STONE RECOVERING FROM OP

Rolling Stones guitarist Ronnie Wood is recovering from a hernia operation, according to a band spokesperson.

The 60-year-old sustained an injury during the band's hugely successful Bigger Bang tour but had decided to continue the series of concerts until the pain worsened and a hernia was diagnosed.

"He doesn't know exactly the moment it happened, just that it happened while he was on tour and that it got progressively more uncomfortable," the spokesperson confirmed.

"He waited until after Christmas to have the operation last week and is now resting.

"He's meant to be taking two months off but, knowing Ronnie, he'll be back on his feet sooner rather than later."

A statement on Wood's MySpace page added: "He is now at home recovering and feeling well."

The Rolling Stones' Bigger Bang tour, stretching from August 2005 to August 2007, has been confirmed as the highest-grossing tour in history.

According to the band's concert producer, some 4.66 million tickets were sold on the 144-date tour, earning $558,255,524 (£284,791,276).

Wood is not the only member of the rock legends to sustain an injury while on the mammoth tour, with lead guitarist Keith Richards hospitalised after falling from a coconut tree in Fiji in April 2006.
