ROCK DRUMMER AND DJ ESCAPED CRASH BY 'SLIDING DOWN WING'

Ex Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker and DJ Adam Goldstein slid down a wing to escape the plane crash that left four people dead, it has emerged.

Barker and Goldstein - who performs as DJ AM - were left with second- and third-degree burns after the Learjet in which they were travelling crashed into a road while trying to take off, leaving its pilot, co-pilot and two of Barker's staff dead.

According to South Carolina police lieutenant Josh Shumpert, the pair were forced to slide down the right wing of the crashed aircraft to escape the blaze.

"They said they were on fire," Lt Shumpert told People magazine, having been one of the second responders at the scene following the crash.

"They tackled each other and put each other out," he added.

"When I got there they were on the side of the road. They were pacing and in shock."

Though they sustained severe burns, no critical injuries nor crash-related complications have been experienced and both should make a full recovery.

Sources say Barker's ex-wife Shanna Moakler, mother to his son Landon and daughter Alabama, has remained at his bedside since the crash.

The pair had performed a free concert in Columbia, South Carolina and were en route to California when the crash occurred.

A spokeswoman for the Federal Aviation Administration said earlier this week that air traffic controllers reported seeing sparks coming off the aircraft as it attempted to leave the runway.

And according to Debbie Hersman, of the National Transportation Safety Board, a cockpit voice recording suggests that the plane's crew may have tried to abort take-off having heard a probable tyre blowout.

Barker and Goldstein were the only survivors of the crash which led to the deaths of pilot, Sarah Lemmon, 31; co-pilot, James Bland, 52; Barker's assistant, Chris Baker, 29, and Charles Still, 25, Barker's security guard.
