Robert Pattinson used to be obsessed with the gym.

The 24-year-old British actor had to get in shape for a scene in 2009's 'The Twilight Saga: New Moon' where his character Edward Cullen appears shirtless and although he worked out every day to prepare, he admitted he stopped once filming was over.

He said: "I get obsessed with things in short bursts. Like at the beginning of the last 'Twilight' movie, I was working out a lot, because I had to take my shirt off all the time. So I was obsessed with going to the gym all the time and cycling everywhere but, as soon as I finished, I just stopped dead. And I haven't gone to the gym since."

However, despite his one-time obsession with his appearance, Robert admitted he hates his heartthrob status and hopes the "hysteria" won't last.

He said: "Most actors try to encourage a fan base because they think that's what's going to give them a long-lasting career. I just don't think that's the case, the more you reveal of yourself, the more you over-saturate your image, the less interesting people find you. There's only so long hysteria can last. Mystery lasts a lot longer. Yet the entire industry is devoted to tearing every shred of mystery away, so you have to work to maintain anything. In my case, I just hide."
