RIHANNA DEMANDS JEWELLERY RETURN

Pop star Rihanna has requested that jewellery taken as evidence by the Los Angeles police on the night she was allegedly attacked by her boyfriend Chris Brown be returned to her.

The Umbrella singer has requested the return of around $1.4 million (£1 million) worth of accessories that the force confiscated just hours before the Grammy Awards in February.

The jewellery, which includes earrings and three rings, was on loan from an unnamed shop and cannot be returned until the police allow them to be released from the archive of on-file evidence.

Donald Etra, the lawyer who represents Rihanna, 21, said he believes the detective in charge of the case will not object to the return of the items because pictorial evidence will now suffice.

"Apparently, initially, the police felt that it would be needed as evidence, " Mr Etra told the BBC.

"Now the belief is that photographs would be more than sufficient.

"That being the case, we're asking the district attorney to return the pieces."

Mr Brown, who is due back in court next week on charges of assault and making criminal threats, has already admitted to being "sorry and saddened" by the incident, which resulted in both individuals cancelling their scheduled Grammy appearances.

He denies all the charges against him.
