RICHARD DENIES SEEKING POLITICAL FAVOURS
Veteran singer SIR CLIFF RICHARD has blasted accusations he only lent his Barbados home to holidaying British Prime Minister TONY BLAIR to secure his backing in a copyright campaign. The BACHELOR BOY singer has been lobbying to lengthen the period for which he can earn royalties on his work, and a leaked paper from a recent Government meeting showed Blair had presented the issue to ministers as a matter of importance. But Richard is disgusted by claims the move was a ministerial favour prompted by his generosity in the Caribbean. He fumes, "How dare people suggest I asked him to help me, or spoke to anyone else. "I've always been careful not to talk to Tony about politics, because that would spoil things. He must have great difficulty in finding friends who want you for yourself. So I wanted CHERIE and Tony to think, 'They're friends of ours, they never ask us for anything.'"

FOR PETE'S SAKE!!! Can't the man have friends or do nice things for people
without the press making something out of it. Where were you when he offered
the Blairs to stay at his villa last year because of all the stress that they
were under. I mean Cliff is NOT that type of person to do a nice gesture for
someone expecting something in return. I just don't get the press -- it sure
must be a VERY close news day because that wasn't even "news worthy" except
that it was a nice gesture for Sir Cliff to offer his Barbados villa to Tony
Blair and his family so they could "get away" and have a relaxing family
vacation.
But the news media doesn't want to report "good/nice" news about Sir Cliff. I
just don't understand how the British press and some of the people can talk and
treat Sir Cliff they way you do -- you should be very proud of how he
represents England and British pride.
I know a lot of his American fans just can't understand how he is always
badgered for good things he does and how he lives his life.
Anyone who knows anything about Cliff or followed his career would know that he
would never put pressure on his friendship with the Blairs to further any
personnal agendas. Just another blatant attempt at gossip and slander by the
very bias media.
