R.E.M. JOINED BY BERRY FOR HALL OF FAME INDUCTION
Rockers R.E.M. were inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame in New York yesterday (12MAR07) - and were joined by original member BILL BERRY.
Berry - who left the LOSING MY RELIGION band in 1997 - reformed with MICHAEL STIPE, MIKE MILLS and PETER BUCK for a one-off performance of songs from their early career at the inauguration ceremony.
R.E.M. were inducted by PEARL JAM singer EDDIE VEDDER, who praised the band for their groundbreaking career.
He says, "They used every colour on the palette, they invented colours on their own and they put up this huge mural of music and sound and emotion."
Other honorees included VAN HALEN, THE RONETTES, PATTI SMITH and hip-hop pioneers GRANDMASTER FLASH.
Tributes were also paid to late soul legend JAMES BROWN and Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame co-founder AHMET ERTEGUN, who both passed away in December (06).
