RATATOUILLE DOMINATES ANNIES

Ratatouille won nine prizes at the 35th Annie Awards in Hollywood yesterday evening.

The Pixar movie took the best feature production gong along with an assortment of others including awards for writing, directing, best voice acting courtesy of Ian Holm and production design.

It had to beat Persepolis, The Simpsons Movie, Bee Movie and Surf's Up to win the top prize and did so triumphantly on the night.

The win puts it in the frame to take the best animated picture Oscar later this month, as the Annies have predicted the winner in every year but one since the award was introduced in 2001.

Ratatouille tells the story of a rat called Remy, whose culinary enthusiasms find him in hot water in a cooking school in Paris.

It stayed at the top of the UK box office for three weeks in October last year, grossing over £17 million in that period.

In the television stakes El Tigre from Nickelodeon won best animated production for children, while Robot Chicken took awards for directing and character animation.
