Rapper TRAE THA TRUTH is taking legal action against radio station bosses in Houston, Texas for allegedly banning his music from their airwaves and damaging his reputation.
The hip-hop star, born Frazier Thompson III, claims executives at Radio One Inc., the firm that owns KBXX's The Box, began boycotting his tracks after his performance at a recent festival, during which eight teenagers were injured.
He later appeared on the station's morning show with Nnete Inyangumia, when the radio personality accused him of sparking the violence.
Trae denied the allegations and went on to ridicule the DJ's weight on a mixtape, leading to Radio One heads to reportedly ban his songs from the air.
The rapper claims the refusal to play his tracks have had a negative impact on his rising career and has caused him to lose a lucrative deal.
In a statement, Trae says, "I would not have filed a lawsuit, but when other people started being hurt by this ban, I knew I had to stand up. I just could not let any more people suffer and be punished by the radio station over this ridiculous vendetta."
He is suing for general damages to his reputation, character and standing in the community, as well as mental suffering, loss of professional opportunities and performance revenue, among others claims.
A hearing in the case has been set for Friday (14May10).
