RAPPER DMC: 'FOSTER KIDS SHOULD AIM HIGH'
RUN-DMC star DARYL 'DMC' MCDANIELS used his Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction speech on Saturday (04Apr09) to urge fellow foster kids to reach for the skies.
The It's Tricky rapper fought back tears as he thanked his foster parents and then told kids to follow his example - and never let their circumstances rule their lives.
He said, "Don't let your situation define who you are, especially the foster kids and the homeless kids. Because a lot of them go through life thinking, 'Oh, I'm just a foster kid. Nobody loves me.'
"I'm living proof... What I represent here tonight is purpose and destiny. You're looking at what can happen... when you take time out of your life and give love to a kid.
"If my birth mother had never gave (sic) me up, my real mother would have never came and got (sic) me."
