RAHMAN GRABS TWO OSCARS
Indian composer A.R. RAHMAN was a double winner at the Academy Awards on Sunday night (22Feb09) - grabbing two Oscar statuettes for his work on hit movie SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE.
Rahman won his first award for Best Original Score, before adding another of the coveted prizes for Best Song.
The composer said he hailed "all the people from Mumbai and the essence of the film, which is about optimism and the power of hope and our lives".
It rounded off a terrific night for the movie, which tells the story of a young man from the slums of Mumbai who appears on the Indian version of TV gameshow Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?
Danny Boyle's film grabbed eight Oscars overall - including Best Picture and Best Director.
