QUAID'S WIFE SUED FOR DEFAMATION

The cop who arrested RANDY QUAID for failing to pay an outstanding hotel bill has filed suit against the actor's wife for defamation.
Texas Sheriff's Deputy James Davis became the target of abuse when Quaid's wife Evi went public with allegations of bribery and misconduct following the arrest last month (Sep09), but when she slandered the cop on a van sign she drove up and down outside his police station, he decided enough was enough.
At the time, he said, "She's entitled to her freedom of speech, but at some point it becomes libel. I'm considering legal action if it continues."
And now Davis has filed a lawsuit against Evi Quaid in Presidio County, Texas.
His lawyer tells TMZ.com, "He's being accused of engaging in illegal activities, something he's never done."
Quaid has already filed a formal complaint against Davis, accusing the cop of conspiring to set the couple up and accepting illegal bribes.
