PUZO ESTATE ACCEPTS OFFER OVER GODFATHER VIDEO GAME
The estate of author Mario Puzo has reached a settlement over a video game based on The Godfather, lawyers have confirmed.
The author's representatives filed a suit against Paramount Pictures in June last year over The Godfather: The Game, claiming Puzo's estate was owed profits from sales and rentals of the videogame.
The studio had denied owing any money in August but has now reached an out-of-court settlement believed to be worth $1 million (£676,820).
"We think it's a terrific settlement," the Puzo estate's attorney, Bert Fields, was quoted by the Associated Press news agency as saying.
"This involved one of the most admired films of all time."
James Caan and Robert Duvall, who starred in Francis Ford Coppola's Oscar-winning 1972 film based on Puzo's book, had supplied their voices to the spin-off game.
Paramount Pictures has yet to comment on the settlement.
Puzo died in 1999, with his most famous novel having sold more than 20 million copies.
