PRISON INSPIRES AKON'S SINGING CAREER

R+B star AKON was inspired to start a career in music after a three year prison stint for grand theft auto. The SMACK THAT singer was raised in a musical home thanks to his father, jazz percussionist MOR THIAM, but ended up hanging around with a rough crowd. However the 33-year-old says his prison sentence helped him realise he needed to turn his life around. He explains, "Getting locked up is what influenced me to change. It was more of a blessing. "Then when I got out I was like, 'Okay, I got all these (songs) I wrote when I was in there. I need to record 'em!"
