POLICE TO HEADLINE ISLE OF WIGHT
Organisers of the 2008 Isle of Wight Festival have confirmed that reformed rock legends The Police are to headline the event.
The Roxanne stars are to top the bill on Sunday June 15th, the final night of the three-day festival.
And promoter John Giddings has admitted that it's "a coup" to sign such a successful act for the festival.
"We're very happy to have the biggest tour of the last two years stopping by the Isle of Wight," he added.
The group, fronted by Sting, announced they were reforming in January following a successful performance at the Grammy awards.
Their world tour was recently named the top-grossing and top-selling worldwide tour of 2007 by Billboard magazine and more dates are planned for next year.
The three-piece will perform in New Zealand, Australia and Japan before returning to Europe in June, with the Isle of Wight show set to be their only UK festival appearance in 2008, according to the event's organisers.
Having been reincarnated in 2002 at Seaclose Park on the outskirts of Newport, the festival has played host to the likes of the Rolling Stones, David Bowie, Robert Plant, the Who, REM, Coldplay and Bryan Adams.
