POLICE SCORE TOP-GROSSING TOUR

Reformed rockers The Police have been named as the most successful touring band of 2007, with over $212 million (£105 million) grossed.

According to Billboard Boxscore, the reunited band sold over 1.8 million tickets for their long-awaited tour which saw them perform at arenas and stadiums across the globe.

The band announced their reunion tour at the Grammy awards in February this year, confirming a series of concerts from the middle of 2007 until mid-2008, in celebration of the 30th anniversary of their hit single Roxanne.

Another reformed band, Genesis, secured the second most successful tour of the year, with their 46 gigs grossing $129 million (£64 million).

Justin Timberlake's FutureSex LoveShow tour took $126.8 million (£62.9 million) while Renee Zellweger's ex-husband, country singer Kenny Chesney, sold $71.2 million (£35.3 million) worth of tickets.

According to tour promoter Live Nation, 2007 was a "lighter touring year than 2006".

Jason Garner, president of North American Music at Live Nation, told the Hollywood Reporter: "We saw fewer artists on the road, especially in our global touring unit. We had some great artists out; there were just less of them than past years."
