POLICE CANCEL GIGS AFTER VOCAL PROBLEMS

The Police have been forced to cancel two shows on their world tour due to lead singer Sting's vocal troubles.

The reformed band cancelled concert in Antwerp, Belgium, last night, as well as tonight's scheduled performance in Mannheim, Germany, according to tour organisers Live Nation.

An announcement on Sting's official website confirmed: "The singer is suffering from a throat infection and doctors have advised him to rest."

It added: "A rescheduling announcement will be made as soon as information is available."

The three-piece band announced their reunion tour in May this years, 21 years after their last major show together.

Sting, drummer Stewart Copeland and guitarist Andy Summers are due to play in Dusseldorf, Germany on Saturday night.

The Roxanne hit-makers will then perform for two nights at Manchester's MEN Arena before the European leg of their comeback tour concludes with shows at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff and Wembley Stadium.

Though he's struggling to sing this week, this could be a blessing in disguise for some concert-goers after a recent poll.

US magazine Blender recently named the top ten worst lyricists of all time, with the Police frontman heading the list.

He was accused of writing lines full of "mountainous pomposity [and] cloying spirituality".
