POLICE APOLOGISE OVER SOCCER FILM MIX-UP

Filmmakers behind soccer movie THE FIRM have been handed an official apology from London police - after cops mistook the shoot for scenes of real violence.
Officers investigating clashes between rival fans in east London in August (09) used a TV report by Sky News to capture the faces of hooligans believed to be involved in fighting ahead of West Ham's crucial game against Millwall.
But officers failed to realise the TV channel was actually broadcasting footage from the movie and they sent out pictures of the actors alongside real suspects wanted in connection with the violence.
Scotland Yard bosses have now withdrawn six mugshots they published, over fears they could be sued by the film's stars.
A spokesman for the police force says, "We wish to apologise unreservedly to those affected."
A representative for the production company behind the movie, Vertigo Films, adds, "We have received an apology from the Metropolitan Police which has been accepted."
The film stars British actors Daniel Mays, Paul Anderson and Calum MCNab.
