POLANSKI 'DEPRESSED' BEHIND BARS
Incarcerated director ROMAN POLANSKI is "tired and depressed" as he battles extradition to the U.S. to face sentencing for a child sex conviction, according to his lawyer.
The Chinatown filmmaker has been behind bars in Zurich, Switzerland since 26 September (09), when he was arrested in connection to a 1977 child sex crime.
Swiss officials denied his appeal for release on Tuesday (06Oct09).
But his attorney remains hopeful Polanski will soon be able to leave prison while waiting for a decision on his extradition - because the ageing filmmaker is suffering behind bars.
Herve Temime says, "I found him to be tired and depressed... Roman Polanski, who is 76, seemed very dejected when I visited him. Polanski was in an unsettled state of mind."
Temime expects authorities at the Swiss Federal Penal Court will decide "very soon" if Polanski can be released on bail, adding, "He would fulfil all the conditions and stay in Switzerland until the extradition proceedings are decided."
