PINK DONATES $250K TO AUSTRALIAN FIRE APPEAL

Singer Pink has donated A$250,000 (£112,928) to the appeal for victims of the bushfires in Australia, which have killed 200 people.

The So What star follows actress Nicole Kidman and musicians Keith Urban and Leonard Cohen in pledging funds to the charity drive after thousands were left homeless following devastating blazes in Victoria.

"I've been really affected by the media images of the tragic bushfires in Victoria," Pink explained on her website.

"My heart goes out to all those who have suffered so much in these circumstances.

"There's little anyone can do at such a long distance away but I wanted to make a tangible expression of support."

She added she hoped the donation would help the "rebuilding of lives and communities in the areas affected".

According to the Red Cross, A$106 million (£46 million) has so far been raised for the bushfire appeal.

"This is an incredible outpouring of generosity and support from the Australian people," said Red Cross chief executive Robert Tickner.

"We know that many millions more have been pledged through telethons and other fundraising events, from corporate Australia, from governments and from people as far away as the UK, East Timor, Papua New Guinea and Indonesia.

"It truly is an amazing response."

It is suspected at least two of the fires were started deliberately, with one man already charged with arson.
