PHILLIPS SLAMS UNION FOR REFUSING TO CREDIT WRITER

THE HANGOVER director TODD PHILLIPS has lashed out at bosses of a Hollywood union - after the organisation refused to credit a writer who transformed the movie's original script.
Phillips commissioned writer Jeremy Garelick to rework the initial concept drawn up by Jon Lucas and Scott Moore.
And it seemed Garelick's draft was worth the hassle - the movie has been a surprise success at the box office, pulling in over $213 million (£142 million).
But Phillips was left fuming when Writers Guild of America (WGA) chiefs wouldn't put Garelick's name on the rolling credits - and has branded the union's rules "insane".
He tells Ain't It Cool News, "The Writers Guild has these insane rules, you have to prove this insane amount of work - and they have very nebulous rules about what that work is.
"Jeremy did a massive amount of work. And the f**ked-up part is it's not even the fault of the original writers. They even agreed (to share credit).
"But the Writers Guild was like, 'No, no, you're being pressured by the director, so we're not going to stand for this.' It's just astounding."
A rep for the WGA says, "The Guild doesn't comment on credit arbitrations."
