PHILLIPS IN TEARS OVER THE END OF HAPPY HIPPIE DAYS
Former MAMAS + THE PAPAS star MICHELLE PHILLIPS fought back tears in a new TV interview as she recalled the dark days following the Summer Of Love 40 years ago.
The singer, the only living member of the California Dreamin' hitmakers, is one of the stars featured in new documentary Monterey 40, which recalls the Monterey Pop Festival in June 1967.
Phillips has many happy memories of the event, which was co-organised by bandmate and husband John Phillips, but admits she always gets weepy when she recalls the years that followed.
She says, "With the (Charles) Manson slayings of our very very good friends in August 1969, I have to tell you that that was the end of a certain era.
"It just didn't seem that any of those good times survived and they were ever gonna happen again."
