PETERS LANDS NEW YORK PARKS PRIZE

Broadway favourite BERNADETTE PETERS is to be honoured with the first New York City Park's Citizen Award for her efforts to promote the Big Apple's green spaces. The actress/singer will be presented with her prize at the inaugural Park's Annual Gala at the Boathouse in Central Park on 25 September (06). The Citizen Award will be presented every year to a high profile New Yorker who has raised awareness of the city's parkland and nature charities. In a statement announcing the honour, a spokesman for the New York City Parks organisation says, "She is a tireless volunteer advocate for homeless animals. "She continues to focus her efforts on responsible pet ownership and education, helping to make our parks safer for everyone."
