PETE WENTZ DENIES RUMOURS OF IMPENDING FATHERHOOD

Fall Out Boy bassist Pete Wentz has rubbished tabloid rumours that his fiancee Ashlee Simpson is expecting a baby.

The pair have been dating since late 2006 and announced their engagement last week.

Soon after Wednesday's engagement confirmation, a number of US celebrity websites, including OK! and Us Weekly, published stories saying that Simpson - the younger sister of actress and pop star Jessica Simpson - was pregnant.

But Wentz has issued a swift denial to reports that he is to become a father, emailing MTV News to rebut the rumours.

"There is a witch hunt for people to be pregnant whenever they get engaged in Hollywood," he wrote.

"This is all news to me. I can't wait for the story about how I'm really in a gay relationship and this is all just a cover.

"I mean really, this is crazy," he added. "We're engaged, that's true, and happy about it."

A statement issued on behalf of Ashlee Simpson said that the pair were indeed engaged, continuing: "beyond that, there is nothing to add".

Wentz, 28, gave Simpson a diamond 'promise ring' in February, which the 23-year-old singer later said meant "he hasn't asked my dad yet".

However, the Fall Out Boy star later asked Joe Simpson, Ashlee's father, for permission to propose before popping the question.
