PET SHOP BOYS INSPIRED BY AIDS VICTIM
PET SHOP BOYS star NEIL TENNANT has revealed a friend who died of AIDS inspired three of the group's hits.
The singer admits Being Boring, Your Funny Uncle and It Couldn't Happen Here are all tributes to his former bandmate in folk combo Dust.
Tennant tells gay publication Out his unnamed "best friend" was diagnosed with AIDS in the mid-1980s and his sad story has inspired the Pet Shop Boys.
He says, "Being Boring is the description of a party we had, Your Funny Uncle is his funeral and It Couldn't Happen Here was (us) looking back at us as teenagers... I remembered him saying in the very early days that AIDS was not going to happen in Britain for various reasons."
