PENN TO PAPER FOR DIVORCE

Sean Penn and his wife Robin Wright Penn have begun divorce proceedings, a magazine reports.

People claims Penn, who won an Oscar three years ago for his role in Mystic River, had his petition to file divorce papers dismissed after they were filed on December 7th.

Three days later Wright Penn, 41, filed her own papers and these are now being processed, it adds.

"Irreconcilable differences" are cited as the reasons for the split.

The couple have been married for 11 years and have had two teenage boys, whose custodial status is yet to be determined.

Wright Penn is best known for her role in Message in a Bottle but has featured in numerous Hollywood studio films, including Forrest Gump, The Singing Detective and, most recently, Beowulf.

Penn has made the switch to behind the camera in recent times, having written, produced and directed the Emile Hirsch-starring Into the Wild.
