PEEP SHOW HEADING ACROSS ATLANTIC

David Mitchell and Robert Webb's sitcom Peep Show has attracted the attention of the US, with a trade report claiming a pilot is to be made by Spike TV.

The Hollywood Reporter said a pilot had been shot in Chicago which develops the idea of an office-bound bore living with his slacker friend.

It quoted executive producer Chris Coelen as saying: "This is a huge audience favourite in the UK. In adapting the format we had a lot of funny material to draw from, but we slightly tweaked it to make it more American."

Webb's character Jeremy is played by Rob Chester Smith while Brad Morriss takes on Mitchell's character Mark.

Peep Show, which has been greeted with critical acclaim and a Bafta in Britain, is now entering its sixth season in Britain.

If successful it would not be the first oddball sitcom to make the journey across the Atlantic. Ricky Gervais' The Office was reinvented with Steve Carrell taking on the starring role, in a major success for US network NBC.
