PEEL LEAVES FORTUNE IN WIFE'S HANDS

British DJ JOHN PEEL has left over GBP1.8 million ($3.4million) in his will - as well as his beloved record collection of over 25,000 LPs. The veteran broadcaster, real name JOHN RAVENSCROFT, died of a heart attack in Peru two years ago (OCT04). He has left the majority of his savings and an unrivalled musical collection to his wife SHEILA and their kids. She says, "The record collection is meant to be for the children. But it will remain with me because that is the way the children want it. "We certainly don't want to split it up and it will sit here at home until we decide as a family what we want to do with it. "We hope that, eventually, it will stay somewhere and end up somewhere public, where people can play the records. It really would be a shame if they were locked up and never really listened to. "I think it is probably a unique collection, because of John's very catholic tastes. I can explain some of his choices, but with others, even I was perplexed. "I'm not sure what my favourite record in the collection would be. I always relied on him to play the music." The 65-year-old's will sees his children WILLIAM, ALEXANDRA, THOMAS and FLORENCE receiving a share of GBP263,000 ($495,000).
