PEARL JAM TAPE SONG FOR OBAMA

Rockers PEARL JAM have recorded a new track in support of U.S. presidential candidate BARACK OBAMA. The Seattle, Washington band has taped Rock Around Barack, an amended rendition of Bill Haley + The Comets' classic Rock Around The Clock, to boost the Democrat's White House campaign. Guitarist Stone Gossard performs lead vocals on the track, which is available as a free download on Pearl Jam's website, and doesn't feature frontman Eddie Vedder. Gossard says: "Rock Around The Clock was the first mainstream rock and roll hit in 1955 and it had a transforming effect on American music... "I am, by no means, an expert on the history of rock and roll, but this was a big deal. The rhythm of rock music and its energy were so overwhelming that traditional barriers of race and culture broke down with an enormous crash. "So here's to new energy, rock and the breaking down of cultural barriers: Barack Around The Clock!"
