PAVAROTTI ADMITTED TO HOSPITAL

Opera star Luciano Pavarotti has been admitted to hospital in his hometown of Modena with suspected pneumonia.

The singer, who was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer last year, is currently undergoing chemotherapy treatment after undergoing surgery to remove a tumour.

Italian newspaper Il Resto del Carlino reported that he was suffering from pneumonia and it is believed he was admitted to hospital on Tuesday.

Although media reports have continually speculated about the star's health, the 71-year-old has said he is working on a new album.

The LP of little-known religious material was expected to be released within the next few months.

In 2005 Pavarotti had neck surgery and also suffered from laryngitis, forcing him to cancel a live concert.

He debuted in Italy in 1961 and has since been one of the opera world's foremost stars, singing with Jose Carreras and Placido Domingo in the three tenors.
