PATIENT TAKE THAT STILL NUMBER ONE

Comeback kids come good Take That are top of the singles chart for a fourth week with Patience.

But their reign is not likely to extend to a fifth with X Factor winner Leona Lewis the red hot favourite to claim the Christmas number one accolade next week with A Moment Like This, which goes on sale tomorrow.

The Manchester foursome can take heart in the fact however that they also top the album chart with Beautiful World, with the top five dominated by conveniently timed compilations.

In the singles chart Take That had an unlikely challenger in the shape of Cliff Richard, whose 21st Century Christmas/ Move It release debuted at two.

Completing the top five are Gwen Stefani's Wind it Up, Truly Madly Deeply by Cascada and Booty Luv's Boogie 2Nite, last week's runner-up.

In some sweet musical justice, The Pogues' Fairytale of New York, considered by some to be the best Christmas-themed song of the modern era, hit the top ten 19 years after being released, putting clear distance between itself and festive efforts from the Crazy Frog and Matt Willis, not to mention Katie Price and Peter Andre. Those four should form a band come to think of it…
