Two movies that had appeared destined to lose money for their respective studios after disappointing domestic runs have turned out to be huge hits overseas, the Los Angeles Times reported today (Monday). The two films are The Tourist, starring Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp, which cost G.K. Films and distributor Sony Pictures about $100 million to produce but earned just $67.6 million at the North American box office, and the 3D Chronicles of Narnia Voyage of the Dawn Treader , which cost 20th Century Fox and Walden Media $155 million to make and earned $107.3 million domestically. However, The Tourist, the Times noted, has now earned $201.9 million overseas and Dawn Treader has now passed the $300-million mark.
