OSCAR WINNER SLUMDOG HAS ANOTHER DAY AT UK BOX OFFICE
Slumdog Millionaire has returned to the top of the UK box office chart following its eight wins at the Academy awards.
Danny Boyle's Mumbai-set drama, which won the best picture Oscar last month, returned to the number one spot in its eighth week on release, having earned an impressive £1.67 million.
Last week's number one film, Disney animation Bolt, fell to fourth while Clint Eastwood's Gran Torino saw the veteran actor and director claim his best-ever UK opening.
The film, which stars Eastwood as a curmudgeonly Korean war veteran forced to interact with the Asian families in his community, took £1.35 million to debut in second at the UK box office.
Horror film The Unborn opened in third while Clive Owen thriller The International missed out on the top five, entering in sixth with a disappointing £760,382.
New in Town, the other major new release of the weekend, debuted in tenth with earnings of £438,979, despite a poor critical reception.
