OSCAR ORGANISERS PREPARE BACK-UP PLAN

The Oscar's organisers are developing a contingency plan to be put in place if the event is cancelled due to the writers' strike.

A back-up plan would involve replacing the traditional red-carpet, star-studded celebration with a show of film clips and a presentation about the history of the Oscars, reports the Associated Press.

Sid Ganis, Academy president, told the news provider: "We have an obligation to the art form to present the Oscars."

Currently, the Academy of Motion Picture Art and Science is in talks with striking writers to allow them to hold the Oscar's as normal.

The ceremony is scheduled to be held on February 24th.

Announcements regarding the ceremony have been sparser than in previous years, with no possible presenters being revealed so far.

Nominees hoping to be able to receive an accolade include NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN, ATONEMENT and THERE WILL BE BLOOD which are heading the Best Film category.

JULIE CHRISTIE and newcomer ELLEN PAGE are nominated for the Best Actress gong, while DANIEL DAY-LEWIS and GEORGE CLOONEY are popular choices for Best Actor.

The Hollywood writers' strike has been ongoing since November 5th and led to the cancellation of the Golden Globe Awards earlier this year.

However, the Grammy Awards are being allowed to go on after the organisers made a deal with the writers.
