OPRAH PICKS STUDENTS FOR HER NEW SCHOOL
OPRAH WINFREY has delighted 73 disadvantaged girls by surprising them with a place in the new school she is building in South Africa. The legendary chat show host has spent more than $15 million (GBP8.3 million) on the educational centre built in the town of Meyerton, Johannesburg. She hopes the school will give the students a better chance in life and allow them to attend the "best universities in the world". Winfrey says, "This is so exciting for me, for the girls and their families. South Africa is like my second home and I want to give something here. I feel this project is blessed."

THIS IS ACTUALLY NOT A COMMENT BUT A REQUEST, I AM A LADY WHO WORKS WITH KIDS
AGED BETWEEN 6 AND 18, I TEACH THEM DANCE, DRAMA AND OTHER LIFE SKILLS. I LIVE
IN A DISADVANTAGED COMMUNITY IN JOHANNESBURG, ALEXANDRA TOWNSHIP. I'VE HAD THIS
GROUP (RISING STARS THEATRE GROUP) SINCE 1997 UNTIL NOW BUT, WE HAVE NO
SPONSORS OR FUNDING OF ANY KIND. WE HAVE PERFORMANCES OUTSIDE OUR LOCATION
THAT REQUIRES TRANSPORT AND YOU FIND THAT MOST OF THIS KIDS DONT HAVE MONEY. WE
ALSO NEED A LOT OF UNIFORM. WE TRY DOING ALL OF THIS FROM OUR POCKETS BUT AS
TIME GOES ON THINGS INCREASE AND WE FIND IT DIFFICULT TO COPE. I WAS ASKING IF
YOU COULD ASSIST US IN ANY WAY.
