NOVOSELIC ENDS PROTEST CANDIDACY BID

Former NIRVANA bassist KRIST NOVOSELIC has given up his bid to change political policy in his home state of Washington - insisting he has made his point.
The grunge rocker entered the race to become county clerk in Wahkiakum County earlier this month (03Jun09) on behalf of the Grange Party.
Novoselic decided to run for office in a bid to urge Washington officials to change the state's policy on allowing candidates to name which political party they are affiliated to - even fictional ones.
He added that the recently implemented rule allows electoral candidates to "confuse voters".
But the musician has now decided to drop out of the running for the job.
He wrote in his Seattle Weekly blog on Friday (11Jun09) that by running under the Grange Party - a civic organisation he heads - he made it "crystal clear: It's wrong for me to drag a private association unwittingly onto the public ballot."
