NORWAY TAKES EUROVISION CROWN AS JADE SHINES

The UK has recorded its best result in the Eurovision Song Contest for seven years.

Jade Ewen ended the contest in fifth place - the first time a UK act has finished in the top five since 2002.

The 21-year-old performed her track It's My Time in Moscow alongside Andrew Lloyd Webber who had written the song for the competition.

A total of 25 acts performed through the night, with Norway's Alexander Rybak ending up the runaway winner with the greatest ever points tally.

The BBC's coverage on Saturday night featured a new commentator for the first time since 1980.

Sir Terry Wogan, who stepped away from the competition after seeing Andy Abraham finish in last place in 2008, was replaced by Graham Norton.
